I became interested in genealogy when we studied the genetics of eye color in a high school biology class. I was fortunate enough to have all my grandparents and a great grandmother alive. When I started asking questions, they started talking. I took down all the names of relatives, when and where they were born, lived, married and died that my family could remember. After a flurry of activities uncovering more of this type of information, via censuses mostly, I started getting interested in what a person or family was doing with their lives. What stories, or family traditions, did my family have to tell? What jobs did they have? Did they go to school? Did the families live in groups or move away? How did they migrate and what paths did they take? This has led me to many fun hours of research and some great vacations. Noah Webster and Emeline LUCAS |
